This was the second time we ate at Brothers Restaurant at the Red Barn. We wanted to go to Mattei’s but found out it was closed for a while (It has since reopened with different owners). Brother’s restaurant is owned and operated by the same two guys (brothers Matt & Jeff, Nichols) that started Mattei’s, so we thought it was a good bet to be a nice place.
The first time we ate at Brothers Restaurant, we thought it was one of the best restaurants in the area. This time around, we thought the same thing again! The hostess seated us right away. The service was very good, but the food came out a bit slowly.
They have a great choice of freshly baked and warm breads while you wait for your appetizers. Being California, you have to ask for water. The drinks are very good. I had a Cosmo and Mike had a Mojito.
The food is simply prepared but very good. They pride themselves on the fact that all the food is ‘home made, from scratch’. There are steaks, prime rib, pork chops, salmon, chicken, rainbow trout, and veal chops on the menu. The appetizers are good. We shared the baby greens with Stilton, poached pears, and candied walnuts. For our main course, we had the roasted chicken and the veal chop. For dessert, we shared the warm dark truffle cake. It is very rich. The coffee is excellent.
The wine list is a bit lacking. It isn’t as good as Mattei’s. It is a selective list, with a lot of wines from local Central Coast vinyards. But it is just not as extensive as we would expect at this particular restaurant. Unfortunately, it didn’t have many of our favorites. It was fairly limited in our opinion. But the bar area is lively and is a fun place to stop. We enjoyed chatting with the bar tender and some local residents before sitting down to our dinner.
We highly recommend visiting Brothers Restaurant at the Red Barn if you are anywhere in the area.
