Wow, I still can’t believe we rode our bikes to Key West. Of course, we tried to find good or great restaurants along the way. I am relentless when it comes to finding good restaurants. I look for suggestions and reviews. I check multiple sites and, maybe, ask people who live there, where we should go. Sometimes it works out well, other times, not so much.
Mike wrote about our day 0 in his blog. I am reviewing the restaurants along the way.
The first night we stayed in the Marriott Courtyard in Key Largo. We saw a nice looking restaurant across the channel so we thought we would try to find it. Skippers Dockside is an outdoor restaurant. Really, you have to sit outside and enjoy the ambiance.
There are tables inside but we didn’t see anyone in there. The outside bar has a fun vibe with music playing in the background and good drinks that keep you asking for more. It is very laid back. We saw a couple sitting at the bar with their dog who was very well behaved. It is a fun people watching bar and the drinks are good too.
We ordered our favorite island drink (memories of the BVI’s, after all, we were in the keys) a “painkiller”. Well, theirs was very good. After a couple of those, we were done for the night.
Actually, the menu is fairly limited but we weren’t very hungry so we decided to have things to share. We ordered the ceviche and it was quite good. It comes served in a half of a coconut. It was very tasty and we would recommend it.
We also shared a bowl of their black bean soup. It was very good too. We aren’t into conch fritters but they might be good.
All in all, we would go back for appetizers and drinks if we are back in the area. It was perfect for what we wanted and we loved the view and the music.
