We arrived in Key West the third day! Yahoo, there are some good restaurants for us to enjoy. We were hungry because we didn’t stop for lunch, but we wanted to have a nice dinner. We decided to try Nine One Five on Duval Street.
For dinner on Day One of our Key West Tour, we went in search of something different. How about a French restaurant in the keys? We found the Hideaway Café on Grassy Key. First of all, it is hidden away.
As Mike mentioned in his blog about day 1, we simply got rained out. Our plan to ride that day just didn’t happen. It wasn’t just a little rain, it poured so we had to find things to do. Among those things, was trying to find breakfast.
Wow, I still can’t believe we rode our bikes to Key West. Of course, we tried to find good or great restaurants along the way. I am relentless when it comes to finding good restaurants. I look for suggestions and reviews. I check multiple sites and, maybe, ask people who live there, where we should go. Sometimes it works out well, other times, not so much. How do we say we truly enjoyed our dinner at Roast. Roast Restaurant is located next to the Sarasota Opera House in a wonderfully old building that was built by the famous John Ringling. It seems John Ringling is everywhere in Sarasota. Roast restaurant is in a two- story building originally built in 1925 and is a registered historic building in downtown Sarasota, Florida.
The upstairs bar is, in fact, his gentlemen’s club. The bar is simply stunning. The carvings are gorgeous. Their craft cocktails are quite good. Go up the steps just to see the bar and have a drink.
Being new to Florida, we thought we would go to cool little festivals in this area. We read there was a very cool Stone Crab Festival in a little fishing town called Cortez. Cortez is located on Sarasota Bay in Manatee County and it is one of the last remaining fishing villages on Florida’s southwest Gulf coast. It still has a working waterfront.
We visited Michael’s on East for our anniversary because we heard it is one of the best (if not the best) restaurant in Sarasota. I have to say that the food is very good as is its wine list (definitely the best we have seen here so far). I made a reservation about 2 weeks in advance on Open Table. I even mentioned it was our anniversary.
It is hard to find Michael’s because unless someone tells you exactly where it is because you don’t know the front of the restaurant is the back of a mall. It is beside an aging atrium that needs to be updated.
We had a very enjoyable lunch at Mattison’s City Grill. It is a real Sarasota classic place. The laid back vibe is fun and relaxing. It is a covered patio. There is no inside seating because there is no inside except for the kitchen.
It was a humid (for a change) morning in Lakewood Ranch when Mike and I decided to ride to Benderson Rowing Park. It is a 20 mile loop round trip with the pool waiting for us at the end of the trip.
