Only in Florida can you buy wonderfully fresh fish and seafood that can be somewhat unusual sometimes. I just bought some grouper cheeks from a wonderfully local fish store in Cortez, Florida.

Being new to Florida, we thought we would go to cool little festivals in this area. We read there was a very cool Stone Crab Festival in a little fishing town called Cortez. Cortez is located on Sarasota Bay in Manatee County and it is one of the last remaining fishing villages on Florida’s southwest Gulf coast. It still has a working waterfront.

I have not done a long ride in a while, so I decided I’d head out on Friday for a longer ride to Anna Maria Island and back. I planned a route that would take me into some new territory – a neighborhood called Cortez that I have never ridden through, and an area called Palma Sola where I’ve only ridden in a small corner.
