On the last day of our ride, we arrived at Hawk’s Cay. Thankfully, the car was still there. It is a beautiful property and we were so excited to stay in a luxurious place after all of the funky places during our trip.
Since we didn’t have anything to eat since early morning, we were pretty hungry when we arrived but we needed to take a shower and get changed. We went out to the Tiki hut (bar) for a couple of drinks and some appetizers so we could make it to dinner.
Mike had a couple of mojitos (and they were good) and I had their special margarita. We had some popcorn shrimp (and they were good) as well as some chips and salsa (it could be better). We loved the bartender. She was quite the character and a good bartender. She had been there quite a while and we enjoyed speaking with her.
We went to dinner when it opened. The service is excellent. We had an amuse bouche that was quite delicious. It was a little piece of filet on a small piece of bread with some chimichurri.
We ordered the garlic shrimp. If it sounds familiar, we love garlic shrimp and it was good. The sauce was perfect for dipping.
Mike ordered the paella which was quite good. I really felt that I needed to eat some beef so I tried their special for the night, rib steak. I asked for no salt and medium in temperature.
Well, it was more medium rare than medium but worse than that, it was cold and so were the potatoes that came with it. Ordinarily, I would have sent it back but I was so hungry that I ate it. Mike had the really rare part. The waiter did come over and asked how it was. I told him it was cold.
When we received the check, we realized he took the steak off the bill. We told him we would pay for it because we ate it but he told us it was unacceptable. All we could do was tip him generously and thank him for caring.
As an aside, when we got to our room, there was a call from the maître d. He called to tell us he was sorry for the steak and was sending up a bottle of wine. We thought that was a high class place and would go back because they were that caring.
