I’ve always found chocolate milk a convenient and delicious way to pickup some much-needed energy on a long, hot ride. It’s available at almost every gas station and convenience store. It tastes great, and it doesn’t leave me feeling full and gassy. I’m not the only one who thinks it a good idea.
Chocolate milk has gained a lot of popularity as a post-workout recovery drink. Perhaps you have wondered why and if it’s right for you.

Parmer’s Resort, Little Torch Key, Florida
On the way back from Key West, our next stop was Parmer’s Resort. It is another fairly low-key, funky hotel. We had a couple of calls from them because the day we checked in was going to be their Christmas party. They wanted to make sure we checked in ahead of everyone partying.
Barnacle Bill’s Bed and Breakfast is a must stay place. It is so much fun and doesn’t take itself seriously.
What can anyone say about Barnacle Bill’s Bed and Breakfast. It is definitely an “off kilter” wonderful place on Big Pine Key. They usually require a two-night stay but we were able to stay for one night. It was very special, very eclectic, quirky, or any other odd name we could call it.
Second night: Lime Tree Bay Resort: Long Key, Florida
The second night we stayed at the Lime Tree Bay Resort. Here is what they say about their hotel and I quote from their website. Lime Tree Bay Resort “is an intimate boutique resort which sits on ¼ mile of lush, tropical waterfront property adorned with colorful flowering plants, etc.” “Our upscale resort offers 46 well-appointed rooms and suites all of which have recently been tastefully updated and renovated by professional designer/decorators.”

Hotels along the way to Key West: First night in Key Largo
Once we decided to ride to Key West from Key Largo, it was time for me to go into reservation mode.

Key Plaza Creperie Restaurant, Key West, Florida
We left fairly early and didn’t wait for breakfast at Author’s Guest House. We thought we would find something along the causeway out of Key West. We kept looking for something that was not IHOP and, we found it in a little, out of the way strip mall. The restaurant is named the Key Plaza Creperie since there is a Creperie in Key West proper.

Better Than Sex Dessert Restaurant, Key West, Florida
For dessert on Saturday night, we decided to go to Better Than Sex for dessert. It was a relatively short walk (about three-quarters of a mile) from Santiago’s.
Better Than Sex is a drink and dessert restaurant. It has a menu that portrays everything as sexy. It was a fun place.

Ordering food in at the B&B: China Garden, Big Pine Key, Florida
Day 3 we were on our way. Since we stayed at a B&B, we either had to ride our bikes to a late lunch or dinner (not a good option) or call for takeout (a better option). We had a choice of Chinese food or pizza. Can anyone out there guess what we did?

Blue Heaven Restaurant, Key West, Florida
Blue Heaven is very “Key West.” If you dump all of Key West in one place, it would be Blue Heaven. Chickens (rather Roosters), bright colors, and cats appear to characterize the restaurant along with good food and drinks. It is a big courtyard with stages for music and art, a bar, and lots of tables under trees.
Louie’s Backyard, Key West, Florida
On Friday night, we went to Louie’s Backyard with Cindy, who is a local friend. The restaurant was a complete surprise. It is a sophisticated, lovely restaurant. I guess we expected a bar-b-que joint. It was very nice inside but even nicer was the outside seating. We enjoyed the whole experience. It is a romantic restaurant and just hearing the water lapping around us just sets the mood.
