Day 4 – A Free Day In Key West

The Authors Guesthouse has proven a fine place to relax in Key West.  It’s close enough to town that everything is an easy bike or cab ride.  But it’s far enough away that we are not disturbed by the hustle and bustle on the street, and we don’t hear any traffic noise.    Both of us sleep well, and awaken to our first morning in Key West eager to explore the town.

Day 3 – Big Pine Key to Key West

Tim, our host at the Barnacle Bed and Breakfast, prepares a fabulous breakfast.    We gathered with the other guests on the upstairs patio to share breakfast, along with the gorgeous views of the Gulf.  We gorge ourselves on vegetable fritatta, and chat with our fellow travelers about trikes,, the trip and our plans for the day.

Day 2 – Long Key to Big Pine Key

Finally, the sun is shining!  We peek outside our loud, smelly room at the Tree Lime Resort to see the sight of the sun riding into a crystal clear sky.  Yes!  Today we can begin our ride.

Day 1 – Key Largo to Long Key

I feel it’s gonna rain like this for days
So let it rain down and wash everything away
I hope that tomorrow the sun will shine
With every tomorrow comes another life
I feel it’s gonna rain for days and days, I feel it’s gonna rain

Christmas For Craniacs

The Sandhill Crane is a common site around Lakewood Ranch.  Riding our bikes through the parks and neighborhoods near our home nearly always results in more than a few sightings of the big, gangling birds with their bright red heads and grey feathers.

Emerson Point Revisited

When I arrived in Florida, the first long ride I  tried was from my home in Lakewood Ranch out to The Emerson Point Preserve in Palmetto.  I reported that ride here on The Recumbent Gourmet.

At the time (May), the weather was really hot, and I didn’t have enough time at The Preserve before I had to turn back for home.  So yesterday, I decided to repeat that ride, and explore the place in more detail.  Boy, am I glad I went back!  The place is much larger, and much prettier, then I thought after my first visit.

How Slow Can You Go? The Key West Plan.

I mean I’m in no hurry
To hustle and scurry
There’s so much to see
And life ain’t gonna
Pass me by

from Jimmy Buffet, I Love The Now

Well, our planning is complete and we are just about ready to take off for on Key West Adventure.    We’re planning on taking it very easy and very slow.

Sarasota Legacy & Venice Waterway Trails

Today was a day just begging for a bike ride.  I woke early to find temperatures in the middle 50’s, with forecast highs in the middle 70’s.  The sun is shining, the humidity is low, and a gentle breeze is blowing. Wow!  That’s the coolest, nicest weather I can remember since moving to Florida last spring.    Time to ride!

These Rides Have Gone To The Dogs!

It’s been so darn hot and humid here in Florida that I have not wanted to take Mac out in the trailer since we moved.   But finally the weather is starting to get cool and dry enough to let him come along, so there have been a couple of chances lately to get him out on the trail with us.   What a happy dog!   His first rides since arriving here in Sarasota.
